EARTH FRIENDLY
FASHION MADE OF MILK TEXTILE
The clothing industry is one of the biggest sinners of CO2 emissions in the world. However, this can be changed. We have discovered casein protein which is a textile made from 100% organic milk with the best animal well being. It is possible to make this textile sustainable as we can utilize the waste milk from milk productions and only utilize 100% green energy.

The history of casein protein
• First produced and patented in Italy in 1935 by Antonio Ferretti
• Milk fibers enjoyed a brief period of success in the 1930s and 1940s
• During the World War II, casein textile was used as a wool substitute but soldiers complained of the smell when they were wet and warm (Today, with improved production techniques this is no longer a problem)
• The popularity of milk fibers declined rapidly once full-synthetic fibers were developed
• Fully synthetic fibers such as acrylic were able to significantly undercut milk fiber on price while being more durable
• During the 2010s several producers tried to reintroduce milk fibers to commercial production but creating a circular sustainable production has not yet been fully achieved. This is what was our plan.
Textile made from casein protein derived from milk is currently produced in Italy and India. We ordered a few meters from India for our prototypes. This story began in Denmark when I discussed with a friend how I, as a designer, could contribute to preserving the planet. I first designed models that follow trends and are intended for summer due to the density of the material we ordered. Our research lasted for months. The plan for producing yarn from casein protein derived from milk was publicly announced. It is accessible to everyone.
Below, you can find our plan for starting production in the gallery. This is just a small part.
