Collection „De la rădăcinile românești spre viitor”
“I am inspired by Romanian folk costumes. Every region of Romania has different costumes and each of them is a unique inspiration for me. Since I was a little girl I was fascinated by the Romanian folklore dance groups and the way they combined traditional clothing. Embroidery shapes, practical cuts and silhouettes , organic textile fabrics, carpets, jewelry and hair style are key segments for creating unique couture costumes. Romanian carpets are a cultural heritage. The carpet that I used to create an outfit for this collection was made by my grandmother. Idea is that the art installation is represented by a map of Romania in white color which symbolize spurity and kindness. Everything starts from there. Pure white surface waits to leave a mark in the form of a new world, knitted from the roots of ancestors, a white surface which absorbs the cultural beauties of Romania. In the middle of the white map there is a model in creation. Items we normally use to decorate our enterier such as knitted carpets and table covers, now decorates her body. Covered up like an item. Forgotten and tucked away from the modern world. Central model represents home and Romanian family values. Model wears a skirt . The skirts contain pom-poms in the colors of the Romanian flag. In my installation, models are holding red knitting threads that are connected to the skirt, representing the power of love. Thread connection regions into a single state. Models represent regions. Each model is inspired by an individual region. Central model represents Romania and has a symbol of a house. Romanian traditional clothes are almost unchanged throughout history and their roots can be found in the earliest times. By creating a new world through costumes I am changing traditional design into different silhouettes. White shirt, white pants, hat, belt, vest or rope are redesigned into a modern fairytale like pieces. Braided hair, worn by women, is braided with linen and shaped into details in specific areas. Jewelry consists of crochet earrings. One model wears an apron in the front and hidden in the back which connects with the skirt on the side. Male model’s clothes contain hidden messages in the form of needlework. Models made out of old damaged rugs show us how new and unique clothes can look like. Small clothes collection represents a way how in a traditional way we can get brand new form interesting to new modern generations.”
